Our Program
“Winning with Money”
is a unique financial literacy program designed to teach young people from grades 5-12 the ABC’s of money that we all wish we learned as kids.
Deeper than that, students will learn to reframe their thinking around money not as a goal, but as a tool to build the goal.
This is no cookie-cutter Fin-Lit program, we won't be learning to balance checkbooks here.
By teaching powerful concepts like opportunity cost and deferred gratification we will focus on lifestyle design through the lens of personal finance.
This will help students redefine their ideas around money and learn to think long-term
thus making wiser college, career, relationship, and financial decisions.
Young people are hungry to learn about MONEY
They are constantly exposed to the inflated lifestyles of others on social media and getting conflicting and overwhelming advice from the online money influencers and family members who only know what they know.
What young people need is a financial order of operations they can understand that is explained in ways that make sense and apply to them on a personal level.
Help them avoid financial stress
Before teens are saddled with financial obligations like paying rent, student loans or credit card payments, it’s important that they have a strong financial literacy foundation. But statistics suggest that while teens are interested in financial subjects, they don’t always feel armed with the necessary knowledge to achieve financial wellness.
- As of 2021, 73% of teens reported wanting more personal finance education in 2021.
- 75% of teens lack confidence in their knowledge of personal finance.
- 41% of teens don’t know what a 401(k) is and 32% of teens don’t know the difference between a credit card and a debit card.
- In 2021, 86% of teens were interested in investing, but 45% said they didn’t invest because they didn’t feel confident.
- 64% of American adults report that money is a significant stressor in their life.
Teens need a relatable educator who can go to their level, and speak their language.
The PROBLEM with many financial literacy programs for teens is:
1. They often start with concepts that don’t easily connect with young people because most teens HAVE NEVER MADE ANY MONEY.
2. They focus on debt management instead of debt prevention.
3. They focus a lot on retirement, which while important, is a hard concept to grasp for a teen five decades away from retirement age.
Hi, I'm Brandon
I’m Ramsey Certified Personal Finance coach, a public speaker, Director of Financial Literacy and a current a member of the San Diego Mayor's Small Business Advisory Board.
Simply put, I teach people the tools to win with money.
Being a former teacher of 2nd and 3rd graders, I became an expert at breaking complex ideas into bite-sized pieces.
I now get the opportunity to teach to people ranging from ages 10 years old to retirement the actual tools needed to reach financial freedom and peace. It is my purpose.
